About
I am a network and data scientist with a background in economics and finance. I work between academic research, executive education and applied analytics.
I am Assistant Professor of Practice at SDA Bocconi School of Management, where I teach social networks, people management and organization design, and the use of AI in organizations; at Bocconi University I teach on Principles of Business Analytics. I am also the data scientist of the Network Innovation Lab, where I work on organizational network analysis projects with companies and build open tools for network analysis.
My research asks how the structure of networks shapes innovation. I did a joint PhD in Network Science and Economics at Central European University, with a thesis on Network Structures and Innovation Dynamics supervised by János Kertész. Along the way I was a visiting researcher at the Complexity Science Hub Vienna — first analysing the Hungarian supply-chain network with the central bank, later modelling innovation dynamics — and at the University of Zurich, where I built a simulation model of cumulative cultural evolution. The questions range widely: how innovators explore the space of possible technologies, how collaboration networks change when firms adopt AI, how social ties shaped a papal conclave, and how cultural evolution made human societies interdependent.
I came to networks from economics and finance. I studied finance at Bocconi, where I gave the graduation speech as the youngest cum laude graduate, then took a joint research master in economics at the Université catholique de Louvain and Bocconi. I worked at the European Commission and at the Banca d’Italia office in New York before moving into complexity science and agent-based modelling, starting with sensitivity analysis of agent-based models with Emanuele Borgonovo.
Alongside research and teaching I run Lyra Analytics, a data science consultancy, and I have advised the Ministry of Finance of Cyprus on the impact of tax incentives. Before that I was Deputy CFO of an energy services company, building the financial models behind projects worth around €300 million.
I’ve been building things on the web for a long time: at ten I started a website about comics and video games that grew to millions of views and more than fifteen contributors. Outside work I race triathlons and play the guitar. I speak Italian, English and some French.
